I was asked to shoot a 50th birthday party. I haven't shot in a long time. I would like to use my DVX100a as a b roll camera and for sound. I have two Nikon D7000's to mix in. I have been shooting some footage and testing. Output is to DVD. I mixed some footage shot in 30p and used multi cam to sync. Some of the audio seems just a little off with the video. Not by much, on the talking shots. Any recommendations on settings to get the best quality for editing with fcpx? 720p 30fps or 1080p 24fps?

You'll want to do everything in SD, at the frame rate the DVX recorded at. Be sure all audio is 48kHz.

Thank you BenB for your quick response. The Nikon has an odd ball 640x424 @ 30fps. Not a exact match for the DVX either?

Forget 720 and 1080 when you have a DVX and additional footage in 640x424.
Create a new timeline-project and let FCPX set the formats when you drop in the first DVX clip.

FCPX should adjust everything else to that timeline just fine - or as good as possible.

If you just want to create a DVD with one "play" button, then you can share it like that straight out of the timeline. If you need a better menu you will need to look for other DVD authoring solutions

I ended up shooting in 720p and mixed with it with the dvx footage. Most of the footage used was 720p. The 720 footage blew the dvx footage out of the water, even though all was burned to sd DVD.

That is clear. And if you make a 720p timeline the DVD footage might look even worse, because it gets blown up to 720p and then compressed down for the DVD again.
