Best Mini DV Deck

A price range would be nice to know. A lot of folks like the Sony DSR 11, I like the DSR30 or my sony GVD900 Mini dv walkman. But what I find I use most in my cheap sony handycam to capture and layoff with.
 
It looks like they've gone up more than that. I'm not sure what B&H's price was, but back a few months ago when I was shopping for one, I thought they were about $1200. Might be mistaken.

Ok wow! They've gone up a lot. I got my DSR11 NEW at B&H for around $900 2 years ago. Now it's double that. But if you add to cart it is $250 less. Wow! Still $1600 for that little thing? Man I wonder why they jacked up the prices? Check out other places like EVS or Ebay. hmmmm. :costumed-smiley-047
 
Things are supposed to go down in price as the technology ages. That's just wrong. I paid 1500 for mine, new. Way overpriced. But it is nice. Still... cheap camcorders are the way to go. 1600 bucks buys a nice tripod/head or hell Aftereffects and a decent Mic.. or or or ...
 
I got the Panasonic AG-DV2500. I like it alot. Don't remember how much it was, I think 1500, but it's great. Takes larger tapes and also plays back PAL. I've used the hell out of it with no issues yet.
I believe it's also made to serve as a back up to DVX100 so if you're shooting something real long and tape runs out it will automatically start when tape is almost out in the camera (via firewire).
Neat, but I've not needed that before.
 
im looking for a new deck too, i've been using an old minidv camcorder for past few months, but i want to hook up a CRT monitor so i can get the correct color and everything, any ideas?
 
I've been using a Panasonic AG-DV2000 for 6 years. This this is a beast...it even took a fall from 6' high onto a concrete floor...still going.

At home I'm using a Samsung consumer cam. It's got a wide screen monitor, S-Video I/O, and it suits me just fine.

Panasonic AG-DV2500 is a good choice if you can spring for the $$. I did about 2 years ago and never regretted it. I've run at least 500 hours of tape through it with never a problem (knock on wood). My 2 cents.
