best mic.

rode ntg2 or ntg1. depends if your camera has phantom power if it doesnt have phantom power get the rode ntg2 this way you can have either battery or phantom. rode ntg1 is about 15 dollars cheeper but it can only do phantom power.
 
Please read the stickies on the top of the page. There is no "best" mic under $300. Sorry if I sound annoyed but these questions come up way too much. It's not just the mic you also need shock mount, boompole, wind protection etc. All those cost way more than $300.

Again, you would have to read the stickies to decide what you want. But here is a breakdown of what you can expect to spend as a minimum

Hypercardiod or shotgun mic (preferably one of each)-$250
Wind protection (Rycote softie) $120
Shockmount-$50
10' boompole (carbon fiber)-$180
Cable-$30

One of the stickies actually break it down with detailed model #, benefit analysis etc. and pretty much everything else you cared to know.
 
I think this guy is just pulling chains. In the script writing section he claims to have the "best scripts ever written" and he wouldn't even let Spielberg direct if he asked.
I don't think he can be taken seriously.

Well, you get these round tubes and coat them with wax. Then you get this big cone with a needle on the end. While the tube rotates you put the needle against it and yell into the cone. When you rotate the tube and place the needle along the grooves you can hear what you recorded back through the cone.

Put the whole rig on a big crane and lower it into the middle of your set. Make sure the cast screams real loud! Get your P.A. named Anna to keep a Log of when and where people screamed so you can match everything up. That works so well we're gonna call it Anna's Log! Oh and make sure the crane arm is really tall. In fact in this day and age the higher your tech the better!
 
What's a microphone? I thought you just turn on the camera it automatically makes a movie. Why would I need a microphone? Boy you people are stupid.
