Best Mic Store?

Trew is great, Coffey Sound is great, Location Sound (all in L.A.), Gotham in NY and B&H is good. Another option is Cascade Media. My first choice is always Trew and Coffey, followed by Cascade, followed by B&H.

I will throw Sweetwater into the mix. They've really gone out of their way many times to solve problems, they have a great stock, and are very knowledgeable. If you look at their site, you'll see that they really have a dedication to informing and supporting their customers. Free overnight shipping of replacements, etc. All you could dream of.

If you're thinking of buying Oktavas, definitely go to the Sound Room.

I'm not knocking the others! I've never worked with Coffey, have had great experiences with B&H, Location Sound and Full Compass (and SoundBroker for used equipment). But Sweetwater's usually my first choice on audio equipment (mind you, most of my audio needs are not video/film related; they're for music recording. Location Sound, e.g., is focused on film sound...)

O'Shaughnessey's ... oops, you're talking about microphones ... my mistake :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

C'mon guys... let's sharpen the point a little bit here.

If you want an Oktava, Sabra Som shockmount, or T.H.E. mic then it's Sound Room

If you want a 4073a and K-Tek mount plus Softie then it's Location Sound

If you want a Sennheiser G2 wireless or Countryman Lav then it's www.northernsound.net

Trew and Coffey are also excellent stores with very professional service.

B&H can be good for some things at times, but they vary between competitive and high pricing... sometimes they are the highest $... sometimes they are the lowest. For mics, boompoles, mixers, and many accessories Markertek is the highest price across the board!

Lately I don't know how well they're doing, but I used to get incredible pricing and service on AKG stuff from RVA Canada

Then of course there's Equipment Emporium and Turner Audio.

I used to be a die-hard trew fan and I still get stuff from them from time to time... they are good guys over there, but it really comes down to what you want at the time. If you can't find what you want (for a great price) at any of the shops that have been listed so far... and great service as well... then you've got a personal problem.

Yeah, depends on what kind of mic you want. If you are looking for production sound equipment, then look at Coffey Sound (I used to work there), Trew Audio, or Gotham Sound. If you want Studio stuff, then Sweetwater is definitely a good choice. I have never bought anything from there myself, but that's where we used to get all our studio equipment from back in college, and I remember my Proff saying they were very helpful.

If you do decide to go to Coffey Sound, talk to Robert or Thomas in sales, and tell them I sent you there, and if they don't give you the best price they can, I'll personally go down ther and kick their asses.
