I am in the process of looking for a good onboard mic for my dvx
the reason that Im looking for onboard now is because I am usually dealing with a one man crew being that I am a student filmmaker and sadly really don't have a lot of people that would operate a boom for me
So far I am looking into the RODE NTG-2 being that it is highly reviewed and has the option of battery power if I would want to use it on a boom poll at a later time (when i have a crew)

does anyone have any other suggestions for a good mic, or a better mic then the NTG-2 for around that price range?

Just get the ntg-1 even if its on a boom pole you can still phantom power it. The ntg-1 is also somewhat shorter than the 2 helping it stay out of the frame when camera mounted. If you can find people to be in your films surely you can con someone into holding a pole in the air. Your sound will improve drastically when boomed.

and iFILM you may want to do read the stickies (Aka: New To Audio? - Read This First Please) in this section...:cheesy:

Ntg-2

Ntg-2

I have an NTG-2 mounted, and it doesn't come in to the frame at all. I chose it over the NTG-1 simply because you never know when you're going to wish you could record to another device that won't deliver phantom power.

The NTG-2 sounds great to me, but I haven't heard much of anything else to compare it to, to be honest!

Other forums do actually have that...

I have the NTG-2 and it does a good job. You may want to consider whether you'll be indoors or outdoors more when you choose a mic, but the Rode is a good solid choice in that price range.

You can always try to score somethimg a bit better, but used, for around same price...might take a bit of work.
