Best low light camera?

Here are some Gemini screen grabs around iso5000 give or take.

Iso12800 is usable with noise reduction. But without noise redution, 3200-6400 is “to taste”.

This shot was 5000 in boost mode, i think:

Some Chroma noise in the shadows. But nothing heinous. The lack of sharpness is due to a warm bpm filter. Without the filters, this would have been a much cleaner and pretty noise free shoot on the gemini, but the filters and stopping down for extra dof made using the gemini so much nicer than a dragon or mini.

It let’s in the ambient light at night, without any real noise penalties.

The Gemini doesn’t really feel like it is setting any records, but it is one of the few cinema cameras that you won’t think twice shooting between 3200-5000, and lets you steal some 6400-12800 shots too.

From what i remember of the Varicam, i’d give it the edge over the gemini, but the Red is so much smaller, and slightly more conservative on battery.

The Canon ME20(sp?) would be king of the hill. The A7SII (if 8-bit is acceptable). Then the Varicam, then the Venice and Gemini.

Yeah, that Canon... ...it's more of a science project than a professional piece of kit.

Well if I were designing a camera hd fullframe would be a serious consideration- mmm big pixels.

I could not afford it. But as a rental for a specific job absolutely!

I’d not rule it out - as I said the only time I saw one it was at a rental house going off on a HETV nature show.

How does the Venice compare to the Gemini, in your experience?

Oh nice!

Sounds like an exciting challenge of a shoot. Wish you all the best!

I’ve only seen one comparison test of the two up-close. There wasn’t much in it - at 3200 ISO, Gemini had slightly cleaner shadows, Venice held on to more in the highlights.

Thanks. I’ve never shot with a Venice, so curious to see how its dual gain works. Gemini was pretty liberating.
