I am looking at purchasing the best bang for your buck lighting kit that can encompass all aspects from interviews, commercials to short films. I am looking to spend between $1500.00 to $2000.00 on a kit.

What would you pick?

FVESCO in Denver is selling several used Mole Richardson kits in this price range. They will last a lifetime.

I would highly recommend the Lowel DV Creator lighting kit. Comes with 1 Tota light,
1 Omni light, 1 Prolight and a Rifa 44 softbox for roughly $1,300

This is the kit I use for everything. Interviews, documentaries, commercials, short films
and green-screen work. I just added one more Tota light with umbrella.

You will not be disappointed. It's very compact and portable for one-man-band operations.
It will also last a lifetime. Make sure to get the "hard case" for better protection.

Note: You can often find it (or individual Tota/OMNI/Prolights) for sale on Craigslist.

Hope this helps.

P.
