saw a thread that someone said didn't like the codec or importing from native Premiere Pro 2.0 to AVI for editing.

before i got PP2, i used WinDv as a beginner. now i'm wondering if there is anything to what he is saying.

like everyone else, i am trying to import the best / clear / crisp / AVI i can to edit with.

am i missing something here?

thanks in advance

What type of video are you trying to import? If its from the DVX(or any other standard def DV camera) theres no problem whatsoever with premiere. Just make sure your project settings match the video you are trying to import and Your Good Bro :)

There is a difference betwen capturing and importing.

If you capture from a mini DV camera it is a file transfer from the camera (F/W) and should be no problem using the Preset Project Setting appropriate.

Capturing from camera that produce mpgs etc could be an issue.

Importing files. Best is a Type 2 avi and this is what Premiere handles best.

You cannot set up a Project to import mpeg, QT, DIVX or anything else but that does not mean you maynot be able to edit it.

thanks Shooter and jupiterleo, yes I should have said capturing from my DV cam, not importing. I just hear so much opinions on codecs to use, and opinions on what program to use. I pretty much have the basics on capture settings and use the stadard 4:3 48mghz DV settings in PP2. Although i have a beauty camera dvx100b, havn't had the chance to try and shoot in anything other than Auto and 60i.

thanks for the response, just confirmed i am not crazy (YET) lol

No problem dude. Just play around with the program, test things out and you'll be good in no time. The main thing that matters is that you find what programs work for what YOU are trying to achieve. There are many great codecs for many different applications.

Happy Filming :)
