Best headphones for DVX100A

I understand the DVXs headphone out is made for pro headphones, and that is why they are a bit noisy with reg walkman type earphones. I am looking for the best headphones I can get for the DVX under $100. Something that keeps out unwanted noise. I did a search and all I could find was the Sony 7506 as a good one. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Ed

Ed,

Sony are nice. So are the sennheiser ones. Both are about a hundred bucks and they are what everyone seems to use.

I use the Sony MDR - V500's and I love em'.

Yeah, they're made for DJ use, but the extra boost in bass never hurt anybody and I hear everything loud and clear.

Sony 7506 is very common. They fold up nicely. Pretty rugged. Sound quite good.

The Senn 280 is slightly different soundwise, but not inferior at all, just a little different mix of emphasized frequencies. Slightly larger earcup design and also slightly more isolation from external noises.

What nice about both phones is that the signal comes through strong on them both and are accurate enough to trust. You can't go wrong either way.

I have the HD280 Pros - they're great. they are really rugged, and for the price, Im happy to just buy a new pair when they die - Ive had mine a year, and no signs of dying yet.

i have two pairs of the 7506's

great headphones for audio etc.

i have two pairs of the sennheiser 600's and i love those for music.

the sony 7506's are great because they are nearly indistructible and it folds up to a nice size.

i've almost worn out the headphone pads on my primary pair of 7506's.

they are also very comfortable to wear for extended periods.

i added a pair of those funky chenile covers, the "Garfield Headphone Softie"

helps wick away sweat etc. also nice when its a little bit chilly.

I have to second (or third) the 7506s-- they are unmatched at that price point. I have no problems taking them out in the field, then bringing them home to listen to iTunes. Great isolation in the field, great all around quality.

But they're certainly NOT indestructable! I broke a pair by stepping on them on a shoot. Nothing a little glue couldn't fix, but asthetically unpleasing nonetheless!

You can get replacement pads at sony service centers for around 10$. Good as new :)

I've been using Sennhieser HD280 Pros and they are by and afar the best for isolation and durability I've used. I also own a pair of AKG KD240's but those are a bit pricier and more for studio work.

I'm using the Sennheiser HD 515, and I'm very pleased with them. About 100 bucks here in Norway, but I guess you can get them cheaper in America.

is the sony 7505 headphones considered professional headphones (in terms of the kind that the DVX headphone out is designed for= no hiss)

by the way thanks for all the great suggestions

Edweirdo,

Hate to break it to you, but its the dvx making that hiss, not the headphones. The sonys are widely respected, but I've never owned a pair.

The industry does seem to regard em as pro though, i could be wrong.

ah crap :)

I thought I saw another post somewhere that talked about a volume diff between consumer headphones and pro headphones from the DVX...

as long as this hiss isnt recording...

I read that post too, i think Ty Ford replied to it and debunked the whole thing - it was an impedance ques I think.

Nope, no hiss to tape, just to monitoring - which sucks. If you have a mixer or external headphone amp, use the rca outs to feed your mixer - even they are a little hissy, but much better.

I think i will go for the HD280Pro- $78 from B&H with free shipping (and better specs than the sony)

thanks tim...

befor you check what headphones to buy ,start with external preamp which can handle the output dyrectly from the camera ( rca's)
the dvx has thweworst headphone amp between the small cameras and even 200$ headphones wouldnt change it
