Best HD settings

I have just finished editing a 2 minute short in Vegas 8. It was filmed using a Canon HV20 (hdv) for a competition.

My question is if I wanted to make a disc for submission what would be the best render setting to use to maintain the highest HD quality. I have periodically rendered to H.264 720p (bitrate 5Mbps) and burned as a data disc, for viewing the quality on a HD TV using a PS3. It looks good but I'm sure as the film is so short there is loads of room on a disc to maximise the quality (maybe higher bitrate, 1080i). Any suggestions for the highest HD quality using H.264 ?

As a footnote would a blu ray output using a normal DVD burner be my best bet? However, I wouldn't have a clue how to do that.

First you should look what format/bitrate/framerate the end station can take.

But if you gonna watch it on a PS3 you can push the bitrate much higher.

I dont know what the maximum is for a PS3, but if you mux it into a M2TS stream I have at least gotten succesfull with peaks of 25mbs and im sure you could push it to even 40mbs.

For the web ??? I wouldnt go more than 6 mbps. It might create download issues and will take really long to download.
Safest bet for internet. WMV9 HD. Cause there might be a playback issue if the playback computer lacks codecs for other formats.

On this same topic...

Using Vegas 7. Footage I'm working on is from a Z1u HDV 1080i. I have edited some clips and all is good.

I now need to render some clips from Vegas compatable for Final Cut. I don't have a HDV dec to roll back on to tape, so is there a format that best fits the render for Final Cut? I was trying QT w/ Sorenson 3 and a 1280x720 frame size, but it doesn't look the greatest. Plus, I don't know how it will transfer and look on a FC system. Bottom line, I plan to save the QT to a drive and transfer that way, so size is not really an issue, just compatability. Any suggestions on the render for FC?

for online, put on a website

Flash .FLV format
Quicktime .MOV H264 format
WMVHD format

Depending on your bandwidth capacity, or speed of the server, you can put as much quality as you wish. You also need to worry about the end user... is their computer strong enough, what about their connection?

You can start by providing multiple flavors of quality based on connection type.

OK, I tried the uncompressed QT w/ IMA:41 as the audio and get an error. Not having write access to file or not enough free space. The clip is only a minute long and the drive is 150 gig right now. Thoughts?
