best hd settings for vimeo under 500.00 mb

I have a short wedding video im wanting to put on vimeo. Its only 4 minutes long, I always use a high quality wmv for the internet youtube/vimeo but for some reason that 500.00 mb limit is killing me on vimeo. what settings should I use to render? ive tried 1440x1080 and 1280x720 wmv but they always go over the limit. what do u guys suggest?

Try not to scale your video if possible. That will degrade the quality unless you have high quality scaling software (Not Premiere/Final cut)


And then use this bitrate calculator to keep your file at 500MB

According to your info, a 4 minute video will fit into 500MB if you use:

• 16350Kbps for video
• 192Kbps for audio

okay now alex, Im not too familiar with all the bitrates and technical aspects of rendering, with the free conversion programs you mentioned in that link could I set all the bitrates myself?

and what about an 8 to 10 minute video? any way I could keep that under 500mb?

Yes, with the free software you can set all the bitrates yourself.

If you have Final Cut Studio, Sony Vegas, or Adobe Premiere, you can also output h.264. There is no need to try and learn the harder to use free software if you already have a major NLE package.

wow, I didn't know Premiere or Final Cut aren't good at downscaling?! Why is that and what do you use for scaling if you have to Demistate?

I use Avisynth for scaling. It's a scripting language for opensource video encoders.
