best harness?

i need to get a harness. single strap leaves my neck/shoulders hurting pretty bad after a few hours.

been looking at:

petrol over the neck style, the versa flex bhs and versa flex hs

fellow bag mixers what are your thoughts?

I use a petrol harness. I must say it's comfortable, but it may be a bit on the bulky side. That being said, I can wear it for hours without fatigue. It does get sweaty in hot weather.

My wife is my sound operator (Doc crew of 2), for some years now and on really nasty days we end up shooting for as many as 6 or more hours uninterruptedly. Because of that we recently decided to buy a Petrol PEGZ-1F bag and heavy duty harness.

She only tried it once since we've bought it. About 4 hours straight and she's very very happy with it.

I'm a versaflex guy. I have the original model which works well but the newer models look even better

i like the petrol cause i can mount the rx packets on the harness. but i'm more concerned about the function of it being comfy than where my rx are, as long as they pick up.

i've heard a few other guys mention the versa flex too, i've been leaning more that way.

As mentioned, there are several good ones from Versaflex, Petrol, and Portabrace that have a lot of sophisticated padding, adjustments, accessory hooks, and pockets, etc, but one that is frequently overlooked is the Portabrace AH-2. It is the only one that I am aware of that transfers weight off of the shoulders and onto the lower body at the waist. It is a two piece system with a shoulder harness and a waist belt. Unless you are very large or very small, you would probably where the medium size.

thanks Glen, but did you mean the AH-3?

No, I actually meant the AH-2. But the AH-3 does, like the AH-2, have the ability to support the load with the waist/lower body.

I like the AH-2 because it is simple, but evidently too simple for most. You can take off the shoulder harness without taking off the belt and vise-versa. In fact, the belt and shoulder harness are not connected on the AH-2, and I can not see any reason why they should be connected but can see why they should not be.

But preferences for harnesses are very individual. For example, some people need a very soft plush padded strap while I prefer to lower profile of very little padding. But, keep in mind I also sometimes ride 600+ miles a day on an enduro motorcycle.

I should also say that while the AH-3 is not listed on the Trew Audio online store, it is still available.
