Best hard drive format between Mac/PC

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I was quite sure how to word my search... I apologize if this is redundant.

I'm currently digitizing some tapes for a client and she needs to be able to use them on both Mac and PC. I'm currently using a Mac, but I have access to a PC if I need to use a different format for the hd.

Basically I just want to know which style of hard drive formatting will allow the drive on both PC and Mac, and have no (or a high) file size limit. I believe I formerly used NTFS and it had a 4 (2?) gig file size limit (or was it FAT32... been awhile...)

Anyway, I'm sure this is pretty basic knowledge, but it's surprisingly hard to find on google searches (of course, this may go back to my ignorance on how to phrase my search).

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Please let me know if you need any further clarification.

There is none which works for both. But MacDrive allows Windows to read/write to HFS+ and programs like MacFuse will allow OS X to read/write NTFS.

Thanks a lot guys! I'll try exFAT, but the client has offered to just buy a second HD if needed, so I can always go that route if I really need to.

As per the wiki entry, you need vista SP1...if you right-click the drive and select Format, you should see an option for exFAT. This is also the file system that the new SDXC cards are using.

Windows Vista must be Service Pack 1 or later for exFAT support
