Best Hard Drive Cache size

Hey Everyone,

I was eyeing this hard drive since it's portable, 7200rpm, and g-drive has a solid reputation.

the only question is the 8mb cache. does cache make a real difference though? i read that editing video doesn't matter so much for cache size since the files are so large anyways. wasn't able to find too much info/discussion on this however. confirmations?

i'm looking for a hard drive that can play real time 2 layered clips in "overlay" composition mode. if it can do that, i'm happy.

on a macbook pro dual core 2.6.

That's pretty standard. It'll be fine. That's what most drives have.

For that size drive I'd say it's okay.

In my experience though, all my 2TB drives with a 16mb cache are slightly slower at random access than those with a 32mb cache. I notice this the most when scrubbing through the timeline of a huge project.
