Best graphics card?

I was wondering what graphics card takes full advantage of adobe premiere pro.
I heard the quadro is the best for it, but i don't want to switch to that brand because i heard it's terrible for gaming. I'm hoping that an ATI card upgrade will work because the current ati card i have now isn't nearly fast enough to preview video in real-time. I have a ATI radeon x300. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance.

Dude, you're worried about a card being terrible for gaming when you have a x300?!

Several things here:

1) You don't need a high end GPU much less a card like the 4500.
2) You don't need a workstation card period.
3) Premiere Pro doesn't have much acceleration done on the GPU so far.

If you want a cheap upgrade that will give you acceleration in PP2 I would go with an nVidia 6800 or 7800 card. If you want gaming power both of these are getting old.

Currently the most powerful gaming card on the market is made by nVidia but costs a fair amount (though a lot less than the Quadro!).

Haha, yeah i know, it's pretty bad, but i heard quadros were worse (no direct X support). I'll check out the nvidia cards if you think they'll get the job done. Im also gonna get myself an extra gig of ram. I have a XPS 400 right now.

Hmm, you know, I'm not sure if the Quadros don't have DirectX support. That would surprise me if true but I suppose it could be the case.

Adobe lists the nVidia cards I mentioned as certified to work with Premiere Pro 2 so you should be good with either of them. Really the card you choose depends a lot on what you want to do with it.

Actually, the Quadros are nVidia and they do have DirectX support but they are not optimized for gaming. Shaw is right that you don't need a Quadro for Premiere Pro. I would go with a high-end nVidia Geforce card. Adobe seems to favor nVidia and if you're interested in using the Magic Bullet V2 plugin, for example, it will use the GPU on a high-end nVidia card but not an ATI card and the performance difference is like night and day.
