Hey all,

I'm a FCP guy. I want to purchase a thank you gift for a friend that works with Vegas 5. He also has a DVX. No Magic Bullet Suite as far as I know. Anyway, any gift suggestions for $300-1000? Upgrades? Filters? Any help would be awesome.

Best, Mike

:)

I agree, but its not very personal. This friend helped us with some real estate stuff and I just wanted to show our gratitude.

  • DVRack (one of my faves)
  • Magic Bullet
  • Pixelan tools (one of my faves)
  • Ultimate S
  • Celluloid with some of David Jimerson's ReelPak tools
  • Zenote Plugins for Vegas
  • Bella Keyboard with shuttle ((one of my faves) ((Allows for multi-cam switching with Ultimate S  ))
  • Sony 234 LCD monitor with MEU controller (OK, I don't know your budget)
  • Serious Magic Ultra 2
  • Contour Shuttle Pro V2
All gifts/products any Vegas editor would be proud to own, and faster/better at their craft, IMO

The Bella keyboards are nice, especially with the shuttle wheel.

However, I just picked up the Logitech G15 gamer's keyboard for about $50 less. It doesn't have a shuttle wheel, and it doesn't have color-coded/labeled keys, but it has some features which I find delicious:

18 assignable G-keys to the left of the main keys; each can be assigned a separate function or macro . . . and there are three modes, so you get 54 programmable options in all.

A heads-up LCD display which, for gaming, would show vital game stats, but when it's running with no game, it displays time, date, e-mail inbox . . . and also has real-time monitors of RAM and CPU usage. The latter, I've grown to find indispensible while rendering.

All keys are backlit, so finding keys in the dark is no problem . . . and it looks pretty cool, too.

I think, coupled with a shuttle control like the Contour, it's a better choice than the Bella.

I'm a FCP guy too, but if he doesn't already have a good audio app you might consider either Cubase SX or SoundForge.

Thank you guys! You rock! It means a lot to me that you helped. I think ULTRA 2 would be a perfect gift. I'm going to get ULTRA 2, and a greenscreen background. He's got lights. One more question, I'm not a fan of the Virtual Set libraries, can anyone recommend some stock footage, fun stuff like Paris, the sky, the beach? Cheesy stuff he can put his kids on.

Best, Mike
