ok so you have done number of short films of different genre and are honing you skills as a filmmaker. You find that perfect stroy that will catapult you to the next level a break-out film that will give you the accolades on the fest circuits as well recognization all over. What genre is the best to do this?

Drama... Suspense...Horror...All...Dosent Matter?

It's going to be different for every filmmaker.
Woody Allen always wanted to be like Bergman...but we saw how well it went over when he tried his hand at dramas.

Work on what grabs you - if it isn't honest then nothing else matters.
Just my 2 cents.

i agree with the wookie! Stay honest to yourself, because lets say you arent into horror but you use it to show your creativity, and then you get stuck doing horror movies that you dont want to do. in any case, i think you gotta do what inspires you, and your best will come through when you are doing it.

i feel as if my stuff in my head doesnt really fit into a genre specifically, so if you feel that way as well, you can also just try and blend genres like comedy thriller, or horror romance...idunno, just tossing out the ideas

Only make films for yourself, and find the genre that you're strongest at. I feel like I have some strength with dark dramas, even though I enjoy doing comedies. However I'll only do comedies for fun because I'm not the best at them, the dramas are for film festivals, the recognition. Plus I enjoy dark dramas, especially psychological ones.

Genre hybrids that mix drama and comedy.

Or better yet, just throw out genres all together. Forget about doing a drama, or comedy, or horror. Just make a film you want to see. Maybe in the end you won't even know how to classify it, and call it a comedrame-horror-fi movie.

Make a film about gay cowboys eating pudding. I hear the film festivals go nuts for those.
