Best frame capture method?

I tried capturing a single frame from some clips using the basic capture button in the capture screen in Vegas.

This frame, although it looked good in the video window, looks terrible as a JPG.

What is the way to get the best possible quality frame image from a 24PA clip?

Thanks!

Re: Best frame capture method?

I will second this question. The button Vegas provides takes low quality grabs perfect for my ebay but definitely not good for screen grabs. I go back to Ppro to take a decent grab, sheesh..

Re: Best frame capture method?

In Vegas, set your preview window quality to "best/full". Then when you take a screengrab it will be full 720x480 resolution.

Or, it may be 655x480... if you want 720x480, you may have to disable "simulate device aspect ratio".

Either way, you can extract full-resolution screen grabs from Vegas.

One way is to save it out as an uncompressed AVI, then import it into something like the JASC Animation Shop that comes with Paint Shop Pro. From there, you export a frame into Paint Shop itself and do whatever you want.

A bit convoluted...but it works. :D

That would work, but it's way more work than you need to do. Just set your preview window to best/full. Then click on the "copy to clipboard" icon. Then go to photoshop or whatever and paste it in -- 100% full resolution, pixel-accurate, the highest quality screen grab you can get.
