Best External Hard Drive to store Media???

Anyone gimme a reliable, and relatively quick external hard drive? I amm cutting a full length feature 90 minutes and have over 200 GB of media...

I'd also be willing to know what the best way to backup my FCP 4.5 HD cuts would be period...

thanks...

Don't get Other World Computing stuff. I've had two items totally fail (one an external hard drve) only two weeks after the warranty was up and they wouldn't do anything for me. But they did tell me what great external hard drives they had to sell me. I let them know I was going else where to someone who's stuff didn't consistantly fail 2 weeks after the warranty expired.

if you are really in a rush, go out and buy a lacie firewire drive. they sell them everywhere. if your project is 200Gb, you should have a drive that is at least 300gb.

most say that the firewire drives are unreliable, though i have yet to have experience that myself

anyone? have any firewire "blowouts" i'm really interested.

best option would be to buy an internal SATA ( if your comptuer can hold it)

next best would be probably ( I am no expert) an external SATA storage system.

yes, backup is an essentila thought unless you like the mental strain of losing days of work.

i've heard of synchronize pro, backup ( apple utilitiy with .mac accounts), carbon copy cloner ***, and retrospect.

as I can't write everything and know little, more research on your part is a MUST.

macgurus.com has some external sata solutions, as does firmtek.com

I have a Lacie 250GB and G-raid 320GB, both work great.. gig for gig the cost the same. I will probably stick with G-raid in the future..

I have both a Lacie FireWire drive, and a no-name enclosure I bought for very cheap ... both work well, except the cheap one has sliced my hands while installing a drive -- and it's absolutely hideous. Needless to say, the Lacie is my pick.
