Best external hard drive solution for editing?

I'm editing on final cut and I have 1.2TB of media I'm cutting stored on a 2TB fantom FW800 external drive. I have to constantly wait for the drive to wake up anytime I playback in the time line. Lately, I can't even move or adjust clips, waiting almost a minute for the drive to wake up and catch up.

What are some better "live" storage solutions? I'm using a macbook pro 2.4 Intel dual core duo with 4g ram. thanks in advance.

I use a Lacie "Rugged" external drive. I like the fact that I can edit on the plane with that drive since it runs off the laptop battery.

thanks guys

- I've been investigating the esata option. anyone use this? looks like lots of possible bottleneck points, curious how much faster then fw800 it ends up being in real life use.

- I did have the "put HD to sleep" box checked so I'll try fixing that.

I was thinking about getting the g-raid 4TB drive:

Does anything think getting a drive this big would be a good idea as opposed to getting an actual RAID set-up of multiple drives? I've already filled 1TB of footage and cannot afford to have six 1TB drives in a RAID now (main drives and back-ups).

I have 6 of them, awesome drives !!

The only thing I don't like is the new power supply and button. I like the rocker switch, now it's some sort of push button. Kind of sucks But that's about the only problem I've had... :)
