Best Export Settings For 16:9 (Pro 1.5)

Hi all, any advice here would be much appreciated. I'm running Premiere Pro 1.5 on a PC.

I've been shooting stuff in 16:9 (using a Sony TRV950) and it looks great. I can export it in Quictime or Realplayer for web distribution and its as good as it is in the preview window. My only problem is that I can't find a good way to export it for DVD use. I bascially have 2 problems:

- All the exports I've tried make the image look cr4ppy and also it seems to revert to 4:3
-Any 16:9 stuff I burn to DVD (using Nero) appears on my tv as something like 4:3

My last short (for a few reasons) was done in 4:3 and went on to DVD fine. 16:9 is obviously the way to go but I just can't get it to work!! :kali:

Any help would be really appreciated. I plan to spend a few weeks shooting my new short film and would really hate to be stumped by tech matters like this!

Thanks

Export your video using using Adobe's media encoder. Select one of the widescreen, 16x9 presets. If you're still having problems I would think that Nero might be the culprit.

Just to clarify. You shot your video 16x9. You edit using the widescreen presets in Premiere. You export your mpeg2 using the media encoder, with a 16x9 preset. You burn the DVD. Your DVD player will display a widescreen image when viewed on a widescreen television, and a letterboxed image when displayed on a 4x3.

I highly recommend Adobe Encore for authoring DVDs.

I tried Encore but it didn't export too good. From what I read it looks like using branded media may fix that.

Any recommendations for the mpeg2 setting export? I must admit I had been exporting to AVI and letting the DVD software do the conversion and transcoding.....

I don't have Premiere Pro in front of me but I usually use a 7mb 2-pass VBR preset. I think those numbers are correct.

VBR is a variable bit rate, so by doing a 2 pass, it will analyze the video stream, then when it encodes it will adjust the bit rate. This will give you high quality but will save space by reducing the quality when it needs to. CBR gives you a constant bit rate, the same quality all the way through.

Hope this helps.

Thanks man. What do you find the best pixel ratio is?
