Any ideas when the next DVXfest is? Can it be the best one ever?

A two-tiered comp would be cool, showcase past winners and place-getters by invitation on one tier (perhaps with a longer deadline and runtime allowed) and an open category with shorter entries?

How about an October Fest again?

I'm always down to do another. Would be good if you folks could help get the word out this time, and we could have a bit more participation this time (at least with audience, if not with entrants).

I think we might try a "Landmine" fest this time around... meaning, across all landmine forums. Would need to work out some logistics on that though, first. Would also like to try to get prizes (at least a fair chunk of them) lined up ahead of time so they can be announced when the fest would be announced.

My thinking would be to shoot for an announcement date of early June, and a late October date for the films to go live and for submissions.

It seems youtube has worked pretty well for us for viewing the last couple of times, so (if there are no major concerns with that) I think we might continue down that road for the next fest. It certainly makes submissions easier on your side (I think) and the handling of submissions easier on our side.

Things to do besides what was just mentioned would be to get some type of voting system in place (pm voting that we did last time was a pain in the ass for you and for me, I'm sure). I know there are mixed opinions about audience vs. panel votes. I'd like to do some combination of both personally, but we can certainly open that discussion up for feedback.

October fest seems to be a good time to do it, but I don't want to commit to a date without having ducks in a row so we can have a more robust and professional experience this time around. I would imagine you would all agree that the best experience is more important than a particular date if we want to try to breathe some real life back into the fests on the site.

I've been travelling for the last week and a half or so, and things are kind of hectic as a result (not to mention slow as hell internet here). Will be back home by the middle of next week and can start trying to get to work on all of this. Just have to make the bi-annual family visit right now so my folks can spend time with their grand kids, etc.

In the meantime, if you folks would like to use this thread as a place to provide your feedback and suggestions, we are all ears. Anything pertaining to rules, dates, voting, theme/genre, etc...

Sounds good Jason! I personally think keeping a genre more open should help get people more interested. Maybe make it on a Theme instead of a specific genre? Just my 2c.

Landmine fest would be a great idea, a much larger audience there and possibilities of greater sponsorship/prizes. Whatever it takes to get the OG dvxuser guys making films together again : )

Yup. We are a go for a Landmine-wide festival, so definitely plan on that. Will be open to all members of all forums. Makes things a bit more complicated, but we will figure it out. :)

I just don't want to half-ass announce a fest this time, so the main priority will be getting the infrastructure, prizes, panel, etc in place before we officially announce. I think it will make for a better experience, with the best possible reach in terms of entrants and audience members.

Since, it might take a bit longer to get it up as a result, maybe we will shoot for a longer entry window this time as well. Something in the 4-5 month range sound ok?
