as I gear up to begin shooting this Sat( :o), I have about all my gear. I have not yet purchased a glideacam of any sort but the stuff I will be shooting with either be tripod for good solid shots and the jittery handheld for a few action scenes where it will fit perfect.

However, no mattebox as of yet. I've soent so much $ on the cam/mic/boompole/back-up cam as deck/case, that I'm a bit low on cash. I'd probaly get a mattebox next. however I'm on a budget, low budget(ques old Kinks' tune) so has anyone here got any suggestions. I appreicate whatever you have. Thanx!

Do you need to use 4x4 filters? Or are you primarily looking for a lens shade?

If you want the lens shade, and you're on a budget, there have been posts here by matthew and by someone else about how they made their own large lens shades, for practically free...

Like barry said, if you want to use filters thats going to be a little bit of cash. If you just want a shade, buy some black matte board at an art supply store and you can make a pretty decent shade in a couple of hours with nothing but an xacto knife and some tape.

Good idea.

I have a .7x that I need to shade on a DVX100A.
Can you tell me how you attached it to the lens or whatever?
I like the idea, certainly the price is right.
Also is there another cheap solution?
I'll be doing on the run shooting and need a solution
that is fairly sturdy.

Re: best economical mattebox?

Well, the original thread didn't mention a wide angle lens, but I suppose with a little trial and error you could rig up something. I thought you wanted to add a little more to the lens shade of the dvx. Me personaly, I built myself a mattebox. But even that is a bit of cash, and then time and effort. Black matte board should work, i'm not sure how you might attach it securely but it should work. Good luck.

Re: best economical mattebox?

cinefoil and camera tape works great for a lens shade.

Also, for low budget filters, try the cokin P series plastic filters. Cokin sells a holder that accepts two filters and screws right into the 72mm DVX threads (with a step ring). I picked one up for about $30 canadian. The filters are pretty cheap as well. Check ebay for good deals on used filters.
