Best DVD output for what I have...

I have premiere 2.0, After Effects, and Encore. What is the best method for burning a DVD?

I've been making uncompressed .mov's in AE and then having encore transcode the video.

Should I let encore "transcode" the raw video files, or should I make a compressed file from AE ?

NTSC, standard dvx footage.

Interesting question. AFAIK, what you're doing will preserve as much quality as possible. You could use the Animation codec in QT with the same results and somewhat smaller intermediate file sizes.

In theory, using the "Export to Encore" function should provide the same quality as your current workflow but it all depends upon the inner workings of that function. If it decompresses the source footage, then applies any effects, cc, transitions, etc. then immediately transcodes to the final DVD format then you should not lose any quality. If any lossy compression schemes are employed in the process then quality will suffer in some way.

If the Export to Encore function works as it should, then you should be able to eliminate the intermediate video file, and save yourself a bunch of time in the process.

Perhaps a test outputting the same video both ways to a single DVD might give you a visual comparison to help you decide which is best for you.
