Best DVD Extras?

Re: Best DVD Extras?

<prepares to duck flying objects thrown at him>

I liked the extras in "Cabin Fever" and "House of 1,000 Corpses". Rehearsals, make up, videos, trailers, lots of cast interviews, shot set ups, etc. Cabin Fever sort of walks you through their receiving distribution a bit also, pranks on the director, it looks like they had a blast making it.

Re: Best DVD Extras?

I just thought of another one. The ET boxed set was actually very nice. The auditions reel was especially interesting.
Ya know what DVD sucks when it comes to extra's? The Kubric collection. I love every movie in that set, but man, there are no extra's other than theatrical trailers. I was bitter when I opened it, popped in 2001 and nothing extra was there.
Ya whats up with that, I bought Full Metal Jacket and ClockWork Orange the other day from the collection and nothing. Are there any Kubrick dvds out there with extras.

Re: Best DVD Extras?

The first and second Austin powers DVDs have lots of amusing goodies on them.

I am spending WAY too much time on this board.

Re: Best DVD Extras?

I watch most movies I care to see at the theatre, so when I rent them it's usually more for any extras that show any aspect of filmmaking. It would be nice if some of these guys had "this is exactly how we did this", but that never seems to happen. The best stuff I come across are making of's. Anything that shows behind the scenes.
Here are some pretty good ones:

- From Dusk till Dawn. Comes with second disc with 90minute doc called Full Tilt Boogie. Shows tons of stuff and lots of Tarantino and Rodriguez.

- X-men 1.5. There is about 12hrs of entertaining **** on this 2(i think) disc set.

- Hellboy. Has 90minute doc and tons of other **** on 2 disc.

- Brotherhood of the Wolf. 3 disc special edition. Disc 2 and 3 are all docs and info on the film. The doc on disc 3 has tons of on set footage.

- Anything by Terry Gilliam. This guy is so cool when it comes to extras. He always seems to have docs on his films, he even has a doc for one of his films that imploded **a must see for any filmmaker - "Lost in La Mancha".

- The new Stars Wars films have tons of extras, I'd trade them all in for a couple good movies instead.

-XXX. Cohen employed a doc crew to film pre to post. Pretty good.

I'm sure there are more, can't think of anymore now.

I can tell you the worst, the worst EVER extras are the ones on the piece of **** film "Formula 51", the film you never saw with Samuel L. Jackson. They should have had nothing... actually the people that allowed the **** that was passed off as "extras" for this film should be taken out back and have 2 put in the backs of their skulls! (it's that bad)

Re: Best DVD Extras?

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I realized that nobody mentioned the Boom Stick edition of Army of Darkness. It kicks ass. ;D

Re: Best DVD Extras?

I *have* the Boomstick Edition, but you know what? I've never watched it. I've had it for months, too. What's up with that? I mean, really?

Re: Best DVD Extras?

I watch it at least twice a month. The commentaries are so great. My favorite quote goes something like this.

(It's the big fight scene at the end, and Ash is being bombarded by skeletons.)

Raimi- And here we had about 4 grips off to the side just throwing these rubber skeletons at Bruce, some of them were throwing them pretty hard. It reminded me of Evil Dead, when we the grips spraying Bruce with tons of blood. Bruce is a good sport, I don't know why we were always throwing **** at him.

Re: Best DVD Extras?

Requiem for a Dream has really good DVD extras with lots of technical details.

Anyone seen Hitchcock's The Birds collectors edition? It includes Tipi Hedrons screentest. There's this really uncomfortable moment during the screen test when this sleazy producer is hitting on her during her test. They're both improvising a scene. The producer more or less propisitions her for sex and there's an uncomfortable moment when she doesn't know how to respond and then Hitchcock interrupts them.

Re: Best DVD Extras?

The 3 DVD Set of Panic Room is grat DVD for extras - the whole process from preproduction with a tree like stricture interface for navigating so you know where you are in the process.

And speaking of DVX behind the scenes, I think the Jack Black interviews on the School of Rock DVD were shot with it in 24p mode. Watch his sections compared to the others...

Re: Best DVD Extras?

Not sure if it has been mentioned but

Resovoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction and Jackie Brown all have nice Bonuses.
