What films have the best commentaries. I don't usually watch commentaries. but I'm looking for good ones I can LEARN from!

The Aliens and Titanic Commentary's are nice. Black Hawk Down is nice. The Frighteners is nice.

Mice are nice

So far of all the ones I've listened to Eli Roth has done the best educational/interesting ones I've heard for "Cabin Fever" and "Hostel". Both especially Cabin Fever's is very inspirational.

Chris Nolan does a great indie filmmaking commentary for "Following". Then he did a super cool commentary for "Insomnia" where he showed the film in the order they shot it and explained it through the process of the entire production.

You definitely need to listen to Robert Rodriguez's commentaries on ALL his movies. Very educational.

I would agree with that - RR shares alot of his personal insights. His "roll up your sleeves and do it" attitude is pretty inspiring as well.

Scorsese's commentary on Taxi Driver and Raging Bull (the Criterion Laser Discs) are really excellent.

If you're interested a more of a writer/director perspective, I think that Paul Thomas Anderson's "yak track" on Hard Eight and Boogie Nights are also very good.

Carpenter's original commentary on Hallowe'en - fantastic!

ps - I just rewatched "Once Upon a Time in America". (Wow, what an amazing film!) I'll be watching some of the commentary tonight - it's a long one!

Doh - almost forgot. Not actually a commentary, but I really liked the "Making of..." Rob Zombie's Devil's Rejects.

Hey Rich!

You know that MV you shot ? (All of the above! I'm falling in love!)

The song was on a National Prime Time slot (Can't remember the product) during like American Idol.

Cool!

Gore Verbinski and Johnny Depp's commentary on "Pirates of the Carribean" was awesome, I found myself laughing and wishing that I was working on a feature film. I wish.

I really enjoy all the Kevin Smith commentaries. He just has a good time with all his friends talking about his little pictures. Sure, he doesn't go into anything technical, (Come on, it's Kevin Smith) but they are enjoyable.

My all time favorite directors commentary would have to be Sidney Lumet for Dog Day Afternoon. That is just pure cinematic gold. You get to learn about shooting schedules, working with actors, lighting setups, I'd say its much better than a film school education.
Thanks

My favs are Fincher/Norton/Pitt for Fight Club and Milius and Ahrnold on Conan :)

Here is a good drinking game:

Drink everytime Arnold says "exactly"... you will be s-faced in no time. Also drink and entire beer when he gets confused by the "wheel of pain" and what they do with the grain.

I love that commentary.

Here are some more: Carpenter's Thing, Cronenberg's History of Violence & Videodrome, Smith's Mallrats (worth hearing him bag on Affleck), Coppola's Godfather trilogy, Scorsese's "put any title here", Tarantino on True Romance...

too many to name!

People, screw all these commentaries. The best commentary is BY FAR The Limey. The writer just rips on Soderbergh for ruining the movie the entire time. And Soderbergh cowers like a little girl. It was so brutal that for awhile, I thought they were acting. But it's real. Check it out.
