Best diagnostic/repair tool

Hi,

What's the best diagnostic/repair—maybe even recover data—tool?

DiskWarrior? TechTool Pro 9?

Any free ones worth a look: Onyx, AppleJack?

Why? I have an external drive acting sluggish. Sluggish to show in Devices, and sluggish to be removed. In fact, I unplugged it a couple minutes after trashing its icon and it was still there so I got a "Don't unplug before..." msg.

Now, tho it appears in Devices, when I click on it the window is blank.

Ideas, tips appreciated.

I've had luck with Recuva http://www.piriform.com/recuva
And as always, don't write anything to the drive you want to recover from, as it could overwrite the files you want to get back!
