Hi guys, I´m just getting into hd world now and \i would like to know a few things so I can buy a computer for editing.
Well, first of all , is my old firewire capture card(general brand) up to the task of capturing HDV ?
And what about my video card (nvidia 6600 256MB) ?
And what else should I get ?
Thanks in advance.

Yes

Yes, but a better card will improve performance if you select the utilize GPU function in Premiere's playback options.
And what else should I get ?
The fastest CPU you can afford, the most RAM, and the biggest hard drives. A RAID would help, but it's not totally necessary. Basically the better your computer, the better the performance. It's pretty simple.

For the most part if your going HDV as long has you did DV before you shouldn't have a problem, seeing they're the exact same data rates. The only thing would be to monitor an HD signal, you'd need an HD monitor.

Actually HDV is a good bit harder on a PC. Your firewire cable should work fine for any HDV camera.

Depending on your NLE, video card likely doesn't matter. Processor speed and RAM are what you should think about upgrading.

I dont agree with "biggest drives" per se

Drives around 500GB and more of them can be easier to manage (defrag etc) and reduce massive risk of data loss in the case of a HD failure.

Go for fast quality drives ( eg ESATA) if not RAid

Hey guys - quick quesion - does anyone have any experience of using Prem Pro CS3 with a Quad Core machine? Im upgrading my entire workflow to HD (including Blu-Ray burner) and would like to know if everythings going to work together. The computer I am considering uses the 64bit version of Vista I wondered also does anyone have any experience of using this also.
Thanks in advance for any help :)
