Best Compression for Youtube?

Hello all

Have a short film that I just finished cutting on vegas. It was shot on Mini DV. What do you guys think is the best compression format to put it on youtube?

My version of Vegas (8.0) does not have MPEG 4 format. Is this much better than MPEG 2?

thank you!!!

Fabian

Any version of Vegas starting with 7 (6 may have had it, but I can't remember that far back) should have an MP4 renderer. Check under the render options for the MainConcept AVC/AAC renderer. Also, as YouTube does "HD" video now, I would suggest rendering it out at the highest possible resolution (with a bitrate to match). I would also not use one of the pre-made templates as those typically will not give you a suitable quality video.

You could theoretically use MPEG-2, but I would advise against it as there a number of different container formats and a simple MP4 render is pretty much garunteed to be accepted by YouTube.

Found the MP4 render option. I'm kind of an idiot because it was there all along. Playing with the bitrate quality like you suggested and I'm getting better results...

Gonna finish things up Tuesday morning. Thanks so much for your help!!!

Well this isn't vegas but it's how I encode for Youtube HD, these files will appear within a minute or two on youtube (no re-encoding is done afaik). It will need to be modded depending on the format of your video, but maybe you can take just the x264 parameters and apply them on your encoder.

avchd2youtube.bat:
Code:
@echo off
@echo This script converts m2ts files to Youtube HD compatible mp4 files.
@echo During the conversion process a directory named temp will be created in the current directory.
@echo Press ctrl+c to terminate.
pause
mkdir temp
if %ERRORLEVEL% == 0 (goto OK) ELSE goto END
