hello!
What is the best Colorist software available as "only software" for PC?
Something prepared for the job, with easy masking, and the usual tools.

Thanks!

True - And no doubt DaVinci is the Best.
But I doubt Mac is editing on a Discreet system or he'd already know the answer to this question.

It's works as a stand-alone plug-in if that makes any sense. It is a plug-in for PremierePro, After Effects and Final Cut Pro but when you add the effect to your clip it launches the program full screen as a seperate app sort of. It is amazing, check out the link above and download the demo if you have one of the above mentioned programs.

What do you guys think of Combustion by Discreet??? Since I don't think I want to lay down the green for Shake, I'm seriously considering getting Combustion. Their CC tools seem really, really good?

yea, i have FCP4, and I figure its somewhat like my boris prog, which I despise, but it looks incredible, what rating would you give it compared to the FCP 3-way colour corrector?

The buzz through the SVA film editing department, is that it is an amazing prog, but I dont know anything about it, and have never even seen the interface b4 - so if that helps you...........ill be amazed, lol

hmm, premiere?........one of those guys eh? -jk, sounds like a good deal, I read a few reviews on it, sounds like a good prog, I will def give the demo a try, but I don't think I have the greens for it......its very expensive......very.

thats mostly my reason for not seeing these high end progs being in my budget. Im not eager to jump into these things when I have not mastered the lesser levels before it. But it is nice to think I could afford it someday...... When I graduate out of the FCP 3-way, then Ill consider taking the next step.

sirius doggy, is color finesse a plug-in style prog, or is it a stand alone program?

The new version is available both as a plugin and as a standalone program.
Check Synthetic Aperture's web site.

I'm a Premiere guy so I can't compare it to anything in FCP but it blows away the stock CC in Premiere and A.E.

On the creative cow article, the examples showed 8-bit and 16-bit comparisons between Color Finesse and the 'built in' AE hue/sat adjustments. There were clear artifacts from the 8-bit, i.e. banding, however, the 16-bit examples did not seem, given the example images, significantly different.

The question I have then, is current Premiere 16-bit capable. I know that AE has 16-bit capability, although I've not used it for any project.

Currently I'm using FC-Express for my video editing and AE on a PC for my effects, and at $575, Color Finesse is probably not in my budget for a while.
