Best codec going from FCP to AE?

Hi guys,

So I primarily do all of my editing on my MacBook Pro with FCP for most of my projects. Recently I have also started using AE CS5 on an HP workstation running windows 7.

Now that I'm starting to work in a hybrid environment I need to find out the best codec to use for both situations.

Typically in FCP I'll edit .mov files in 720p or 1080p with one of the Apple ProRes codes.

What codec do you guys think would run the smoothest in AE on a pc coming from FCP?

When I was using Final Cut Express going to AE on a Windows box, I'd use the Animation codec, as it 1) did not introduce any further loss from the codec, and 2) was understood by AE... I believe these days there is a version of ProRes for the Windows box, but since I don't do that sort of transfer anymore, I have not investigated it.
 
ProRes can only be read on windows, you would still have to change codecs going back to mac.

The best solution I have found, is get the new final cut program and let it scare you away from ever using a mac again.

Well the other alternative... well at least one... is to go with Premiere+AE on the Mac and forget Apple ever was in the digital film editing business altogether...
 
Or better yet, go with the CS 5.5 Production Premium on a Windows 7 rig, use the free and lossless Lagarith or UT codecs and forget Apple ever existed at all. :cheesy:
