best cell phone service

I figure this group travels quite a bit so I would ask. I had T-mobile for a long time because I traveled internationally for work. That is changing, and I was wondering what to change to since t-mobile has lousy coverage domestically. (long island/vermont/Ct /south florida is horrible)

Verizon, Sprint and cingular seem to be the other choices. Any good/bad experiences?

If anyone has a slick pda/phone (Q, blackjack, treo) to recommend, feel free as well. Thanks.

Cingular's corporate logo ought to be a pair of tin cans connected by a length of string.

A broken length of string.

I LOVE me some Verizon. ive had sprint, AT&T.... Both sucked.

Verizon is like having a land line in a cell. Coverage everywhere, robust service.

Plus i got a Treo 700W. That thing is AMAZING. its literlaly a computer. I keep my reel on it ot show peopel on the go.

it palys video, take nice pictures, has GREAT features. only flaw is it occasionaly "freezes" up, and you have ot reboot it. this happens like twice a month. usually within quick successon. then youre good for a month.

I think it depends where you are going to be using the phone...I have had Cingular for 7 years. It was GREAT before I moved 15 miles away, and now it kind of sucks.

I agree, Sprint sucks... hard! I'm using Virgin Mobile, and quite often find dead zones, like New York is one, my bathroom is another. I really just want a simple phone, no games, no camera, no internet, no GPS (Try to find me now Big Brother!), with a simple pay as you go plan.

Verizon works excellent in VT and parts the of Conn. I've frequently visit. And for the past 2 years it has done fine on the east coast of North Carolina.

Thanks for the replies, I grabbed the Q from verizon, unfortunatley in my apt it sounds a bit choppy, worse than my t-mobile. They say it might be the phone so i am going to swap one tomorrow. it is never simple.

If not verizon, maybe sprint. I like the treo but it is a big mother.

I am surprised to hear cingular is lacking in some spots, as I heard from a few other people. they have that least dropped calls ad going. Too bad, that samsung blackjack looks cool.

I have had Cingular for years with no complaints. I think it really just depends on where you are.

The only thing I don;t like about Verizon is their night minutes are still at 9:00. I see Sprint just lowered theirs to 7:00. I hope Verizon follows.

The question should be . . .

Which is the LEAST WORST cell phone company?

I still gotta say T-Mobile has fit that criteria for me. But that's me.

The verizon data package is pretty expensive as well $40 so I am at $109 for 1350 minutes with data. I loved the tmobile plan, but the coverage was swiss cheese outside the major cities.

I have verizon. it's okay. except at my house, its a little weak. was considering a switch to T-mobile. I know cingular claims the fewest dropped calls nationwide, but T-mobile just started a billboard campaign here claiming they have the fewest dropped calls in L.A.

Ask people where you'll be using the phone the most. We had Verizon for 2 1/2 years and I hated it -- not because of the coverage, but because the customer service was so bad. And they disable most Bluetooth features on their phones and force you to use their download service to get games, ringtones, etc. Now have T-Mobile. I know it won't work when we visit my in-laws in rural Iowa, but that might be a good thing. I've had them before and like their customer service; they've been cool thus far, too.

Grew up in KC, the headquarters of Sprint. Ironically, it's one of the worst places for Sprint service in the country.

Also, your reception (versus coverage) will depend greatly on your phone. I don't think a lot of people realize this, but phones vary greatly in quality. One phone might drop calls all day on one network and another phone gets five bars and no drops on the same one. Check out phonescoop.com for reviews of handsets.

Gee, maybe my 18 months of hell working on the Nokia account has served some good. No. It still sucked.
