Best camera for 3k?

I need a hdv camera just to get started on some documentaries
and commercials.

I thinking about getting the sony hr-fx1

Is there another better camera I should consider that is slightly more expensive?

I can't afford the hvx-200 but I may be able to squeeze out 4k

Advise please
 
To be totally honest, if you can't afford an HVX200 or a HD100U then I wouldn't bother with HD yet. The FX1 looks like very sharp video. That's fine if you just want to make stuff look like the news but for narrative purposes it's lousy. You have no image control, no 24p, very flat boring images, and it doesn't even have an XLR input unless you get the more expensive version or an adapter. I serionsly would just put that 3k toward a DVX100b or a Canon XL2.
 
Hey 808,

The HVX200 is the best product that Panasonic has released in at least 10 years, hands down. Of course I'm comparing features with cost per unit. I wouldn't spend my money on anything else (except for a DVX100B) but if you're looking forward to the future by wanting to go HD, it's HVX200 all the way.
