Best behind the scenes

I loved the extras and behind the scenes of the "The Dark Crystal". Also, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow I found interesting.

For anyone doing compositing, there's some great detailed walk throughs of all the compositing work on "Contact".

Forrest Gump (Commentary by Zemeckis is one of the most insightful for Direction)
Legends of the Fall (My favorite commentary for Cinematography)

Also, 2 surprising commentaries that I wasn't expecting to be so good:
Excalibur
Highlander (The original, not the tripe that followed.)

Definitely check Scorsese's commentaries on any of his films. Very insightful.

I second Heart of Darkness, too.

I know how you feel, wanting a 10 hour documentary about the making of a film. Unfortunately, no one seems to have the energy to do it. Hopefully, in the not to distant future, I may take a crack at it. There might be some sweet $moola$ in it for me.

Until then, keep on truckin'.

Wes Anderson talks about his influences on the commentary tracks of his films..
By "influences" I mean down to every angle, camera movement, set design, wardrobe, etc.

The guy is relentless...

Speaking of which, The Life Aquatic was released today. I love Wes' movies, but I never had the chance to hear any of his commentaries. I'll put your theory to the test thisiswells. I just rented it and I'll report back tommorrow.

"Zelary"

pretty good BTS for outdoor shooting environments. dvd had a featurette
Are you referring to the Czech "Zelary"? I didn't know a DVD was available in N.A.

I bought Life Aquatic the moment Walmart put it on the shelves after midnight. This one isn't as good as Royal Tenenbaums, though. That commentary rocked. The one on Life Aquatic is done in the Italian restaurant where Wes and his writing collaborator met daily to write the film. There's too much background noise to hear what they're saying and mostly this movie is identical to the others he's done.. down to using the same actors (more or less) the same character roles (played by same actors but different roles this time) same lines in several parts of the movie, infatuation with Jacques Cousteau and general theme of exploration (speaking of...) the long brooding dolly shots in every scene, lets just say this movie is exactly like every other Wes Anderson movie.. But, gosh, I like it.
