Will be working on a short involving a house party and was wondering with all those people dancing and jumping about while actors will be talking what is the best audio setup?

Thanks

Robbie,

Heres how I sometimes do a party scene:

I have absoulty no music playing in the background. So in post you can add it later, whatever music you want. And that goes for everyone else except your actors. Everyone is going to have to pretend like their talking or dancing to music. This will help your post audio alot. If you want to make sure everyone is dancing to the same beat, then play like a metronome, like a ticking clock. Its going to seem odd but its going to help out alot in post. Well see what other advice people give you.

Get your shot audio silently, with everybody pretending, then get coverage of people talking and dancing, from different angles, and with different groups of people as well as everybody. This will give your sound editor a lot more to work with.

I support everything posted thus far.

Use a thumper, though, not a metronome. A thumber is basically a sub that pumps a beat at whatever tempo you want at ultra low frequencies that are easily filtered out. You can rent thumpers from any reputable sound rental house.
