Best apple editing solution?

Howdy, im selling my old dual 1.25 quicksilver and am looking into going a bit higher end. I am looking at a number of computers, mainly the dual 2.5 ghz tower and the cluster node dual 2.3 ghz xserve. What are the best possible ways to upgrade these systems? What I am looking at doing is getting the dual 2.5 and putting in 4gbs of ram and a 6800 ultra or agp x800. Will this run applications like Motion in RT? how about Magic Bullet? AE Pro? and how will this computer change mpeg2 encoding time?

thanks folks, btw if anyone is interested in picking up a dual 1.25 with 2gbs of ram and a ati radeon 9800 email me at phntmlrd@aol.com for pricing and other info!

HAPPY PASSOVER!!!

With that setup you should be good to run those apps you mentioned. If you do get an xserve in addition to the G5 tower, using Final Cut Studio (with the new compressor) you'll be able to use network render power for mpeg compression... speed it up quite a bit.

With the new G5s that came out today, you should definatly get the dual 2.7 to run Motion in real time.

for motion, get the fastest you can afford, so id say either get the 2.7 or a 2.3 with as much ram as possible. Any system you have, make sure to alteast have 1gig of ram as mac osx is very memory intensive

Forget the Xserve

Forget the Xserve

I don't think you can go wrong with the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer. :) Now that new systems are out, the previous models are going to be available at a substantial discount, too.

But don't bother with the cluster node Xserve unless you're going to use it as a render node only -- it doesn't have an AGP slot, so you won't be able to add the requisite graphics card for Motion (or even Mac OS X!).
