BEST ANAMORPHIC - WHICH ONE ?

Yea I think I hear what your saying - use the Ana for interjecting "special" higher resolution shots (a lot like placing high resolution SLR stills with Ken Burns effect) here and there to really make sure the documentary has some very clean punch to it?

dehilster: how much better is the resolution on XL2? Or is it really?

Re: BEST ANAMORPHIC - WHICH ONE ?

Its' not really advice - it's just my way of justifying to myself an expensive bit of glass inhabiting my camera bag. The audience really isn't going to notice - there's very little percieved difference between one and the other. I wouldn't advise buying DVX + ana if you are doing docs and run and gun. On balance I think you'd be better off with a wide converter. if you are transfering to film - that's a different matter, though and I think the anamorphic really comes into it's own then.

One other thing to consider if you are looking at the XL2 - do you want to be noticed when you are filming? Doing docs with the XL cameras can be a nightmare. Someone on another thread mentioned the problem as 'lens lice' - people are all over you as soon as they see that shiny white barrel and I have experience of the "do you have permission to be filming here?" brigade. Nobody notices the DVX though (as long as you keep the Chrosziel off!).

I just posted here a week or two ago showing the FX1 against the DVX/Squeeze, and they're the same vertical resolution.  The XL2 was shot in "norm" detail so it was a lot higher, but in "low" (which they specifically note should be used for interlaced televisions) it's about the same as the DVX in 24p/squeeze/thin.""

geffy, thanks for that link! I'll study this later and post again - gotta go.

thanks again!

Re: BEST ANAMORPHIC - WHICH ONE ?

OK - this link provided by geffy really points at a resolution strength by the XL2.

Those "2, 4, 6" units really stand out. I want to get this with my DVX100A.

Barry's post later compares the Anamorphic to the Squeeze but I would still like to see the same resolution chart up against the XL2 to see how that 2,4, & 6 digit will look with the Panasonic using the Anamorphic Adapter.

I see no reason not to try this myself.

I appreciate all feed back on this thus far.

It looks like the added bonus of having the even more increased field of view and hopefully the same resolution as the XL2 (but with better vield of view!) will be very usefull.

Re: BEST ANAMORPHIC - WHICH ONE ?

Oh yea, - Anyone know what source is going to have the BEST PRICE on the Panasonic Anamorphic Adapter?

Thanks again.
