Best Amazon Financing Bang For My Buck Camera

Hello everyone.

I am new here and I'd like to apologize if this post isn't kosher or if it's in the wrong spot. I'm interested mostly in cinematography and I've used the Canon XL2 alot in the past.

I'd like to make the step and buy a camera, though. Amazon has several and have a 24 month financing deal going on, so I'd like to ask you all an opinion. I have about $2500 budgeted for a camera.

Now, this being a DVXuser forum, I expect alot of DVX100B posts, but I'd like some insight from this community.

I'd sit tight and wait as long as possible. Quality HD in a prosumer cam is finally coming down around that range, and SD cameras are going to be flooding the used market pretty soon. I'd expect to see used DVX100s continue to drop in price for the next year or two.

Remember that a $2,500 camera will be ill-equipped without at least $1,500 in basic accessories like a case, batteries, tripod and head, basic mic, etc.
 
For that much money you should get an HV20, a nice shotgun microphone, some headphones, some Lowel lights with stands, a flexfill reflector, and a tripod.

With these you are guaranteed to make better images than you would with a camera costing twice or three times as much. I see a lot of people worrying a lot about the cameras they use when in reality they are only part of the package.

I've seen a lot of terrible things filmed with very expensive cameras and I've seen quality work like this: http://www.vimeo.com/1333375 shot on the HV20.
 
it's tough to say. 2500 is a wierd spot to be in. I just decided to buy an XHA1 over an XL2 simply because it seemed silly to buy something that isn't HD capable.

It breaks down to this. If you don't care about HD, and you aren't particularly interested in shooting 16:9, then your search is over. Buy a DVX100B. If both of the above are important, then you have a lot of research ahead of you, and you probably will need some more cash.

I tend to agree with this. However, I've heard the audio isn't great on the HV20, so I'd also get an external recorder of some kind to hook that mic up to. Even something simple like a Zoom H4. A boom pole too.

Just giving you the heads up, if you plan on purchasing your camera at Amazon.
Theres a trick to get up to %8 discount on your camera on Amazon.
Basically, all you have to do get started is have an amazon account and had purchased something previously within the year.

Find the camera you want to buy, and scrool down to the "better together" section, which features a related item to the camera. Click the related item, and in the review section mark is as "I Own This". After this wait 24 hours and the after that the camera should appear in your gold box deals, with a 5-7% discount. I bought my camera this way and saved about 350 bucks.
 
I would hold off and see when the Red Scarlet camera comes out...sometime in 2009. I'm trying to find out as much info as a I can about it. From what I have seen so far it is a 3K camera for under $3000 so I'm putting my money on it. Anybody?

After you buy the accesories to make it work, itll be closer to 5k.
