Im looking at spending about 2K on a mahcine, just the box mind you, as an upgrade to my machine now. I have heard several things about the AMD chips processing video alot faster than the Intel chips. Anyone else heard this as well?

Generally it's been the opposite, with Intel chips handling video better than AMD; the comparative benchmarks for video compression, for example, usually have Intel well in the lead over the 'equivalent' AMD chip. This is the main reason why I've stuck with Intel over the last few years even when AMD ran games faster.

I think it's telling that when Apple switched to x86 processors they went for Intel rather than AMD; they could have done either, but thought Intel were the better choice. That's not the kind of decision companies make on a whim, and video is one area where Macs are common (e.g. FCP).
