Best Adapter for HV30 and Ultra Primes

Anybody have suggestions on what the best adapter would be for the Canon HV30 and Arri Ultra Primes, Master Primes, Cooke S4 Primes, and Angenieux zooms.

And what kind of Rods would be required for such lenses.

Is this a serious question?

You do realize that it costs more to rent a set of Arri Ultra Primes for one day, than it costs to buy an HV30, right?

yes serious question... I got a HV30 for christmas... so I already have it. AbelCine has Ultra primes at 750 a day and I'd only need them for 2 weeks so that's 6 rental days, which is 4500, so it's cheaper than buying a HPX170. I'd even perfer getting a 35mm adapter with the HPX170 if I got one.

If they made 2/3" adapters for 1/3" cameras I'd use that and DigiPrimes, but as far as I know they don't make them.

Well, if you just need the adapter specifically for the HV30 then you want the Letus Mini. It's made specifically for cameras with smaller thread size and so it's very light. Since the whole setup is so light you can probably get away with cheaper rods like the Indifocus version.

Point being, an HV30 isn't gonna see the difference between a decent Nikon lens and an UltraPrime, especially once it's gone through the ground glass diffusion of an adapter.

That $4500 could be put to better use in just about any possible way. Sell the HV30, put the dough towards a GH1, and forget the adapter and primes, shoot on the stock lens and you'll get sharper/more cinematic footage. And save about $5,000 over your current plan.

So then the HV30 is worthless, cause I won't be able to sell it. They're not going on ebay at all. Unless I sell it for half the price it was bought for.

if you go the adapter route, you can get a good set of canon fd lenses for about 600-700 bucks:

fd 28 2.0
fd 50 1.4
fd 85 1.8
fd 135 2.0

An HV30 is not the right choice for using an adapter with Arri Ultra Primes. That's just... that's like putting sixty thousand dollars worth of performance parts on a 1972 Ford Pinto. It's just not wise.

The HV30 is great for what it is. A tiny pocketcam that makes sharp images, if you can avoid the jello. Use it for its unique capabilities (like the Crank guys did). Or buy a Letus Mini or a Brevis and some Nikon or Canon lenses and make a tiny little cinema rig out of it. But don't spend five grand on lenses, any more than you'd spend five grand on a 10-person crew lunch.

Yeah, The UPs are great lenses, but they really need something better than an adapter and a Hv30 to benefit. Id only ever really put UPs on RED, Film, SI2k or Phantom HD.

You would be better off using your hv30 with an adapter and buy a set of Canon FD or Nikon lenses, then you have them for other projects in the future...

Keh is a good place if you don't want to go through the trouble of bidding. Or shoot me a PM and I might have a few FD lenses for you.

Nikon only ever made one mount for their lenses. All old and new versions of their lens will fit a single mount.

Okay another question. Nikon lenses designated as AF, are autofocus right? Does that mean I can't use them as a manual focus lens? They have all these different letters for these lenses I have no clue what any of it means.

Just dont get DX, and you will be fine. The DX lenses are not for full frame cameras, so wont cover the glass in your adapter.

As far as I know, all lenses allow manual focus control, although some dont allow manual iris control.

If you were considering Zeiss Ultras, then I would look at buying or at least renting Zeiss ZF primes. These are still lenses, manual everything (no auto focus or iris) but the glass is very nice, so good infact that zeiss just took the glass out of the zf SLR lens and put it into a new PL mount cinema lens (the Zeiss Compact Prime)

The 85mm Zeiss ZF is one of the nicest lenses I have used. You can get them from Zacuto or Redrock.

I also need a suggestion of what adapter would be good for the HMC150, I'm thinking of doing the buy and return thing, since I'd only be shooting for 10 days. Red Rock M2?
