I´m looking for 24" display for video editing.
I´m ready to spend from $800 to $1200.
Does anyone recommend any specific models?
It will be used with a MacBookPro.
Thanks

Magnus

I've got a Gateway 24" I'm pretty happy with. I dock my laptop to it and its quite nice for editing. I trust you are looking to use this as a computer monitor right and not as a broadcast monitor replacement? I ask because my gateway has component inputs available but the picture quality is far from desirable IMO. Much better to use a proper broadcast monitor if thats what you need. For a 24"ish one of those I'd look at the Panasonic 26".

I have an Acer AL2616W. I took a gamble on it; never thought of Acer as a particularly high-end vendor, but...it's really an excellent monitor, at a bargain price.

It's lean on features (limited tilt adjustment, no height adjustment, basic image controls) but I find that for my needs (lightwave, photoshop, sketchup, maya, illustrator, dreamweaver, premiere pro2, etc) it's just great.

Supposedly in the computer arena, most seem to think that the Samsung is the best on the market right now, from color rendetition to response times. The Apple cinema displays have a very slow response time whereas the Samsung is very fast. The slower the response time, the more shearing you will get when playing & editing videos on your computer.

Also, the samsungs are really decently priced. Even their TVs are supposed to be the best out there right now picture wise. But I guess it is all subjective.

I had a dell 2405fpw. I liked it, and especially for the price now, they can be had VERY cheap.

i think the newer dells have a different panel in them than the apple's. the older 2405's had the same as the apple.

Most of the cheaper 24" LCD panels are 6 bit, so you can get colour banding. Look for an 8 bit panel like the Samsung 245T. They are about twice the price of 6 bit though.

I just picked-up a sony 24 " wide screen crt pretty cheap, today infact. I also bought a component to vga converter.I have not hooked it up yet but from what I have read this could work out well. We will see.

looks like this thread is a bit old, but just to throw in my .02... from my research your best bet appears to be a sony fw900. you can find them online through ebay, craigslist, or accurateit. it is supposed to be a beastly 24" crt, but the display is purported to be near perfect for a computer monitor. i can't currently comment because my new edit suite is still being assembled, but that's what i'm looking for.
if you insist on lcd, then most photo geeks seem to recommend an s-ips display as opposed to cheap tn panels. google the heck out of all this and you'll have plenty of reading to do that will make your head spin for a couple days. as with anything, it always depends on how you intend to use it and how good you are with the tools at your disposal.

I second that. It´s the best monitor EVAR made. LCDs are not for color grading - even the 8 bit are far from acurate.

Best thing, since the FW900 isn`t made anymore you can find them dirt cheap.

BEWARE! If you ever looked at one, you never can get back to LCD/TFT.

Just found this bit of argument at creativecow about its 10bits:

BUT the whole 10bit colorspace and rec709 setting ONLY works with RGB-signal via DVI. NOT through HDMI. And since video-colorcorrection is manly a YUV-thing, it won't properly work. yes you can put a converter in between the rgb-output and an yuv sdi output, but i'm wondering if that will be an accucate picture for grading.

i wonder how that compares to the hp 2475 (which is an s-ips panel). the model number is higher (as is the price) so it must be better right? ;)
but seriously, i think improvements are on the horizon for lcds... but for right now crt is the way to go. my new setup is going to have one cheap lcd for timeline (and basic pc crap) and the fw900 (which i am going to pick up in just a few hours!) for more precision in previews and color.

I know this is an older thread but I'll add to it anyway.... I use a 32'' sony Bravia HD flatscreen tv for my editing and it's awesome..... Dealnews.com has on for sale for $480 (shipping included).
