It's been a while since I worked on Vegas and I would be cutting some stuff at home myself. I could use a little help please.

Trying to figure out the best settings to batch render 4k footage into 1080p clips I can cut on a 4.4GHz quad, 16GB RAM, GTX560Ti and a RAID that gets 150-300 MB/s read speed. I will be upgrading the GPU and adding RAM but last I tried this rig will cut 1080p easily, so I guess my question is what would the the best output settings for keeping IQ.

I mean, I could buy CineForm, but what is the next best thing out of what Vegas can renter out right out of the box?

My version of Vegas is too old now... But it seems to me that among the pro NLEs the encoders are pretty much the same.

Clarify for us - are you wanting to make high quality proxies? Or do you want to use the new 1080p files as your final product?

This is a question I'd like to know too... I usually don't keep downrezzed files in this type of workflow, but I have on a couple of occasions, and I used the MPEG2 encoder with every single setting set as high as it would possibly go. I cringed at the thought of using twice-compressed footage in the final, but these were special-needs clips that had so much done to them they were bogging down the whole system.
the end results were not perfect, but honestly ended up a little better than I expected.

Ended up using Cineform. A little buggy, but great results if you are looking to downres and render out.

Now I am looking a tthe best possible render settings for Youtube and for Vimeo
