Bescor batteries for CoolLights LED question

I received my Bescor batts and charger from B&H and have a question-

Do the batteries come pre-charged?

The reason I ask is because I plug in the quick charger and within a minute the red charging indicator light turns off. According to the quick charger fact sheet, this means the battery is topped off. It did this with all 3 batteries.

I plugged in one of my CoolLight LED panels for about 5 minutes and it stayed on without dimming which leads me to believe:

1. Either my charger is defective and not maintaining proper contact (cigarette plug connection)

-or-

2. The batteries are pre-charged. (doubt this- but if so great!)

I'll plug in the LED light again and see if it stays on several hours, but I'm just wondering what has been the experience of other dvxusers with first time charging/using these Bescor batteries? B&H only had one charger in stock, so it's not like I can try another one. My location shoot is Friday and I'm hoping to figure out the answer before then. It's past business hours at Bescor and B&H keep transferring me from department to department and nobody can give a definitive answer.

Thanks,
Drew

That's awkward, now you don't know how much juice you have for your shoot. I don't have one of those batteries but I know several here do and one person I know for sure that does is the dvxuser "puredrifting". You might send him a PM about that and ask him.

Hey Richard,

Turns out the batteries do come charged!

I went to Electronic City in Burbank to buy a multimeter to read the battery charge. They sell lead acid batteries there too and the sales guy reminded me that lead acid batts have to be stored topped off so of course they would be charged when buying them.

I had left one CoolLight LED connected to a battery when I left- 4 hours later it was still on at full brightness! I used my multimeter on the other 2 batts and they read full!

Yeah, stored with full charge but one wonders how much charge they lose on the shelf. I think you should get almost 5 hours on full charge if its that large battery.

Oh I'm wondering the same thing- I doubt B&H periodically charges these batts in the stockroom.

I'll try and call Bescor in the day to get a clearer answer.

Finally had a chance to call Bescor who confirmed the batteries do arrive charged 80-90%.

I asked about shelf life and the rep stated the lead-acid batteries don't sit on the shelf too long- they have a quick turnover from leaving Bescor and being purchased at the resale level.

I mentioned they might want to talk with B&H to clarify the batteries come pre-charged. I got conflicting answers amongst B&H staff so this is why I was confused/suspicious.
