Hi,

If I'm just going to be editing standard def. video from my ag-dvc30,
shot at 30fps, is it worth it to upgrade to FCPS from FCP 4.5?

Thanks!

I have not upgraded yet, but plan to stricly for SD footage mainly for the benefit of the multi-cam edit feature. I would say it's best to upgrade if you edit multiple cameras angles.

Is there anything that you need to do that you can't do in 4.5?

Don't upgrade just because you can, but because you need to.

FCP 5's multicamera editing looks good, but only if you need it. The rendering and file management will also be improved, which will be handy for anyone. I haven't upgraded yet, but I will when I get my next (HD) camera.

That is good advice! I must admit, that when the upgrade was announced I thought "I've got to get that now." But then after some thought, I realized that what I'm using right now (4.5) is working great, I mostly do 2 cam multi shoots, and scaling the footage to 50% and playing in the same sequence has worked great, so I don't have to upgrade right now. Instead I'm butting that money into camera upgrades - Matte Box, filters ... Afterall, when all is said and done no one can tell what you edited on, but the quality of your image will matter. "Garbage In, Garbage out." As they say.
