Maybe someone can break down my worry and my theory.
I have been working with 50P for about 4 years. My first good run with 50p was using it with a Nanoflash for the AG-AF100. I cannot recall the codec settings, but I know it was an 8-bit 422 workflow and maybe around 180mbs - 220mbs. I'm also trying to remember if it was all ALL-I within the MXF codec. For this particular project exporting to 25p was no problem and no artifacts. I also can't remember if it was a constant bit rate as well. Also I don't remember what my export settings were in Premiere 5.5 at the time. Recording fast action scenes were great and I did not notice any jitter problems from the final publish. I understand that there were no frame blends involved or that Premiere was only publishing frames A and not B?
Now I have been shooting 50p on AVCHD 2.0 and I do not like the motion after it has been rendered to 25p. Particularly with dolly shots, pans, and focusing on close objects about 2-3 feet away during the process. Is this because of the codec? I am wondering if 28mbs (probably VBR) is not good enough for a 50p to 25p publish.
check this video I shot for JVC Turkey. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dejt9UdeQuU Notice the weird motion effect on the first shot of flowers on the mini dolly. The motion is horrid. Is this because 50p VBR is unpredictable for A & B. Maybe A gets 12Mbs and then B gets 16Mbs?
I now have a GH4 arriving with some extras. I plan to shoot ALL-I 200M/50p. I ordered Sandisk's newest UHS-II for the GH4. What I'm understanding is that ALL-I frames are independent so that each frame gets a blessing of high quality? I plan to publish to 25p.
Thanks!
