Beginner's lighting kit?

Any recommendations for a highschool student?(provide a link from bhphoto please)
I'm on a budget for about a few hundred dollars (300-500 max) I do not know much about lights and thought you guys would be able to help me out. If you guys can do that for me, that'd be great. Thanks!

You'll want to buy used. $500 for new lighting doesn't get you far at all.

Search ebay, you can usually find great deals on lights.

what are you going to be shooting?
