Beginner's Guide

I'm asking here because I just decided to make my purchase of a DVX100B and you guys definitely know what the hell you're talking about. Some of it has been covered in other posts I've read, but I think I need even more basic information. I plan on starting work this summer on shooting an Indiana marching band documentary, both to show viewers and as a learning process for myself. I need help with the basics of equipment to get started. Not only what to buy, but where. I'm working with Sweetwater for my audio needs(although suggestions would be greatly appreciated). My budget for video is roughly $5000. Here's my list:

Camera: Panasonic DVX100B
Tapes: Panasonic DVM63AQ x 25
Case: Panasonic YUSC100
Tripod: Smith-Victor (with bottom dolly and quick release plate)
Batteries: Impact 3600 mAh, Panasonic 5400 mAh
Filter: Hoya 72mm Haze UV (mostly for lens protection)
? Panasonic 16:9 adapter (used)

Everything here is from B&H with hopes of saving on shipping. Is there anything I'm missing, getting wrong, or should purchase from somewhere other than B&H? I am unsure of the adapter because it may be nice to shoot marching bands in 16:9, but is the quality worth the money? Also, from your experiences, how safe and usable are rain cases? After reading posts, I agree with the mindset that many have expressed of equipment not being nearly as important as technique and tenacity, but I want to get a good foundation to learn with.

I'm new to the board and would appreciate any help and advice you folks have to offer.

Thanks!
