Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

Jim Brennan inspired me to start this new thread.

Who knows of a good beer brand? I don't care about the big players (yeah I know everybody knows Guiness), but smaller beers, generally not known. Also, can you get it in North America?

My favorites are (and yes, you guessed it, they are all Czech)

1. Rebel - Brickskeller in Washington DC has it sometimes. Check out http://www.hbrebel.cz and click on the Union Jack to see English version of the site...
2. Kozel - haven't seen it in Wash. DC, but Ontario Beerstore carries it.
3. Cerna Hora - no known North American sightings yet. Really small and old brewery out in the hills (Black Mountain is the literal translation of the brand even though for some reason, they translate it as Black Hill). SOunds like a fun excursion if you travel to C.R. (http://www.pivovarch.cz/default.asp?nLanguageID=2)

Cheers, and enjoy! Who else has a favorite?

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

I usually stick to Corona or Pacifico but San Diego's Ballast Point has a nice selection:

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

I love BEER!!!

I think there is NO such thing as a BAD beer.
I drink everything from piss beer(Brooklyn Ale, Bass, New Castle, Yuengling Lager etc) to the finest Belgian beer.
I think Belgium makes some of the finest beer in the world, like France is known for good wine.
the rarest and finest Trappist beer such as Rochefort 10, Westvleteren 12 and Westmalle etc.
to
Duvel(my avatar),Leffe Brune, Kwak, DeKoninck etc.
Guys at Beer Advocate voted Westy 12 as the best beer in the world, but I am more found of Rochefort 10.
I disagree with some, but still a good example,
here is their ranking for the best beer.

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

I had a beer in Amsterdam, it was made by Heineken. I was told they do not export it. It was Tawer Bock (spelling could, and probably is off). A beautiful Amber. Ah sweet goodness. Guinness, aka nector of the gods, the Amsterdam brewery in Toronto makes a great octoberfest brew. Hey horse how do you like the local blue moon, at least I think it is from around there, I can not wait to get down there to have more.
Sorry about the beer rambling, just too many good thoughts to make complete sense.

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

Oh ya the creamy goodness of Leffe is always a fav. Speaking of creamy goodness, a beer made in Ontario, Creemore is also very fine.

Just can not stop.

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

I had some Sierra Nevada Pale Ale recently, its definitely not some strange, obscure beer but I thought it was pretty good.

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

Actually, Blue Moon is brewed (or at least distributed) by Coors in Golden, Colorado. However, it's quite plentiful in this area and I enjoy it a lot. When you get down here, we'll have to have a few... dozen. ;D

Agreed. That's quite good.

I liked it too, but its sweetness was too easy.
still my favorite beer from Heineken.

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

By coors, I am Shocked! It is not dad! Looking forward to the day I get down there. You can show me all the good pubs. My wife will love it. ::)

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

I'll definitely show you the sites. Hell we can even go drinking with Modern Drunkard Magazine's International Drinking Champion (he's been one of my good friends for about 9-10 years).

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

That it Chi, do you know where I can get it. I mailed them and they said they did not export it. All I have is fine memories.

Boddingtons, another fine stand by

This is a person I must meet. Was not aware of this fine publication.
So now aside from actually living with my wife, beer beckons me to the Twin Cities. I can not wait.

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

You'll meet him. He lives about 5 minutes from me and I hang out with him often.

Don't be scared by this portrait I took of him, he's actually quite intelligent and nice:

Drinking champ, smart, nice, and he looks like he stole Popeye's forarms. A good person to have with you.

Re: Beer drinkers of the world, unite!

No ****. I used to live with the guy (his name's Brian). If you hang with him in bars, you almost drink for free. One of our roomates used to work at a bar. He got fired. The bar owner called Brian and asked him to "please come back and drink at my bar again". He keeps the local bar economy going.
