Ok check out this quicktime clip of Riot Manhattans before and after clip. At the end of the clip there is a black female model that has imperfections on her face(or should i say normalities on her face) but then they got rid of them. How would you do something like this is shake 4. Has anybody done anything like this and can you kindly share some details about your workflow. After her there are to other female models they give them nose jobs and get rid of bags under eyes.

whoa.

whoa.

holy crap. that was amazing! when they change the color of that girl's hair i was mesmerized. it was flawless! even better than some photoshopped stills i've seen.

that reel makes my aging after effects gimmicks feel like cheap imovie presets.
i wonder if that was all done with shake? surely there were multiple effects programs utilized or at least some pretty fantastic plugins.

im pretty sure that was mostly done in Flame. My friend has done work like this and its no joke. The amount of work that goes into little shots like those is incredible. They work for months sometimes but other times they can get it out in a week but thats without sleeping and a team of people on each element.

It's time consuming, but not hard. Create mattes using a combination of color isolation, masks and hand painting. Then to smooth out the skin, use a combination of blurs. Basically you are trying to isolate the detail (eyes, lips, nostrils, ears, hair) from the skin you want to smooth.

The hair is no different, just even more time consuming. Kudos to whoever created the mattes on that shot. That was a lot of work.

Does anybody have any idea how they did the female model shots? I am really looking for specifics. I am looking at some shake dvd's but I don't see anything that shows they cover this. Any specifics please email nikolmann@yahoo.com or post.

You have to understand that theys tart with high quality of footage -- 35mm scaned at hi-res -- ar at least real HD (not some crappy HDV). Trying to do similar effects from footage shot with DVX100 would be crazy as with such color manupilation teh compression would show. Ipmpressive stuff !

Hey Guys,

I have worked as a senior Inferno/Flame artist for a few years, and I can tell you that can do this with After Effects, Combustion or Shake too. Finegrain is correct in saying that it's not hard but it is a lot of work. It's the same concept as doing it in something like Photoshop. The key is making the roto mattes which can take a lot of time because the face and camera are moving and each edge of the mask have different blur amounts. Also notice that even the eyes have been retouched. This stuff reminds me of when I had to do breast reductions on Alysa Milano when she was the guest star on an episode of the Outler Limits.
