Beachtek issues....I think?

I installed the beachtek dxa 2t on my Sony cx700v. I'm using a rode videomic and audio technica pro88w wireless system. After getting all this connected I had a serious humming.I disconnected the wireless and still had a humming. So I then disconnect the rode from the beachtek and plugged it directly to the camera and had crystal clear audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Is my beachtek bad? Do I not have a setting right on my camera?

Were ALL the connectors plugged in COMPLETELY?
Did you try BOTH settings of the ground switch?
Does it hum with nothing but the Beachtek and the camcorder (NO other connections)?
Specifically with no AC adapter/battery charger, etc.
Do the symptoms change with the Beachtek attached vs. separate from the camcorder?
Do the symptoms change with the flip-out viewfinder screen opened vs. using the eyepiece?

The Beachtek DXA-2T is a pretty simple passive device. It can't generate hum on its own.

All connectors plugged in completely.
Both setting of ground tried, no difference.
Still hums with no other connections.
Hums wether its attached or not.
Still hums with using viewfinder or screen.

I've contacted beachtek and they want me to mail the box in. But like you said its a passive device, so chances are its not the box. They said they havent had a bad one since they sarted making them, 2 years ago. I'm thinking its either a camera setting or the camera. I cant figure it out. Was hoping somebody had the same setup and could direct me into the right way of using it.

You are using the cable that came from Beachtek? Direct, with no extentions? (Most 3.5mm extentions are unshielded)
Do you have a meter? Can you test the cable to confirm that all three terminals (tip, ring, sleeve) have proper conductivity?
Do you get the hum with just the cable plugged into the camcorder and unterminated at the other end?
Do you get the hum with the cable shorted at the other end? (wrap the unplugged 3.5mm mini-phone plug with aluminum foil.

yes, im using the 3.5 cable they sent me, they actually sent me a second one to rule that out. Same humming with both.yes, i have a meter, how do i test cable? I get humming only when using audio through the beaachtek, cable plugged in both ends.

If you have two cables, then it isn't likely to be the cable.
But you can test it to confirm that it is connected tip to tip, ring to ring, and sleeve to sleeve, and none are connected to anything else.

First I'd like to say thank you for the help and your time. This issue is driving me nuts. I first screw the box into the bottom of my camera. I then use the 3.5mm to 3.5 mm cable supplied with the box into the front of it then into the mic jack of the camera. Lastly I connected my rode to the right channel of the box and put it in mono mode. I've read the directions a million times so I dont think its how I have everything connected. I've tried 2 different 3.5 to 3.5 cables and it hummed with both. How do I test them, anythings worth a try.

The switches are on mic ? Although if it humms when nothing is connected..

It might be something with the DXA-2T itself... If 54605730543543074353 are made, there must be one not working...which is yours...probably....

What's actually humming ? The camera or the DXA-2T ???? Because you plug in the headphone into the camera...and NOT the DXA-2T....

Is your camera plugged into AC? If so, it's a ground loop somewhere. I've seen this happen before.
No, camera not plugged into anything. Also, humung is coming from camera through headphones only when beachtek is in use, yes, tried different headphones....anybody know of any particular settings the camera must be on to use beachtek

We have a Sony TRV-950 that puts horrible sync buzz (not the same as mains hum) into our Beachtek adapter, but only when the screen was turned on/folded out. The only workable solution was to use an external monitor. :-(

problem solved

I decided not to mail it in right away, and just take a few more days to try to problem solve myself. The sony cx 700v has 2 audio modes, a 5.1 stereo and a 2 stereo. The camera defaults to the 5.1 when you turn it on without any mics plugged into it. When I turned the camera on, I switched it to 2 stereo and then plugged my beachtek and mics in. Problem solved. Apparently you need to switch the camera to 2 stereo before plugging anything in. Thanks for the help fellas.
